Dori and I have talked and I have agreed to take on the task of recovering the D_S archives if not control of the list. If you have any ideas on how to approach yahoo please email me or post to this thread.
I like the idea of renaming the list in Dales honor but the key to me is maintaining access to the archives.
I don't think Yahoo would be able to do anything until Monday. I'll wait to hear from anyone who is intersted or has an insight to share before sending an email tomorrow. I'll post the email here as well as any discussion with Yahoo.

I am guessing that the ownership of Dialysis Support goes to Dale's next of kin. I am guessing that they can claim ownership of the group by presenting Yahoo with a death certificate and a will. Then once next of kin gets ownership they can transfer it to some-one else.
Maybe a group (3->7) maybe elected by ESRD who could dicker around themselves and adminsiter the group. I think continued operattion of ESRD may be our memorial to Dale. The snag is that part of the success of ESRD may have been due to Dale's "firm" attitude about limiting the scope of the discussions and insisting on conformity to message posting guidelines. He also put tremendous energy into maintaing the list.
So what I am hoping is that some-one with a lot of passion and energy will show up and say " I want to keep this list running and I am willing to put a whole bunch of energy into it" . This person doesn't need to have much technical skills, there are a bunch of us who can help with the technicalities.
I think we also need a "Board of Directors", maybe three or four, people who have long term experience with this group and who the operator is willing to listen.
My guess is getting control of the list is going to relatively easy. The trick is to find the right person to operate it. Maybe we should start calling for volunteers, but please, people who have a history of sticking with it. I could most probably run it for a short while, but knowing me, pretty soon I will get interested in other things and the energy I am putting into it will wane and it will be running without the tight rein that Dale had on it.
Do I hear any volunteers?

If yahoo does have a process I couldn't find it - I did find many tales of lists that sit abandoned. Here is what I submitted through the yahoo customer support form - hopefully Bob has a more direct contact.
I am a member of the egroup Dialysis_Support which has been a Yahoo egroup since 1999. It was with great sadness that the group learned of the list owner, Dale Ester, unexpected death on Friday 11/30. No provision was made by Dale for the management of his group upon his death.
The members of Dialysis_Support are keen on continuing the list as Dale ran it but we do not know how to proceed. Of great importance is maintaining access to the 60,000+ messages in the list archive. Access to not only current members but future members as well.
I hope you can provide some guidance on how to proceed.

Yahoo has not replied, missing the 24 hour response time they promise but the message that yahoo does not turn-over passwords has been heard from Bob's source. The hope is that when an appropriate time comes we can try to use Dale's computer to access the D_S account. I know Dale's family knows the importance of the D_S Community to Dale, I expect they will help if there is a way.
The question is what to do in the intervening time? What do you all think?
