I was wondering if anyone here has had a transplant. I am starting the process to be tested to see if I can have one, then I have a couple of relatives who are going to be tested. I orginally was against the idea of a transplant but am coming around to the idea. I haven't started dialysis yet so I am hoping I can have one before that. My biggest concern is the anit-rejection drugs.I am sure this is everyones concern. But what I want to know is what are ppls. experience with the drugs. Would they highly recommend transplant anyway or not. How did the drugs make you feel? Did it change your body, your moods, etc.? Any responses on this would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou!

You might want to look at Module 2 in Kidney School (www.kidneyschool.org) where treatment options are discussed.

See if there are classes on treatment options in your area. Some National Kidney Foundation affiliates offer these. Others are offered by dialysis clinics. If these aren't available in your area, find out if there's a transplant patient from the clinic where you're being evaluated that you could talk with.

Look for patient information on the United Network for Organ Sharing web site (www.unos.org). You can get a free booklet called What Every Patient Needs to Know from UNOS by calling 1-888-TX-INFO-1 (toll free).

You might consider joining one of the listservs for people with kidney disease. There are many. Here are a couple:
1) Dialysis_Support is for dialysis and transplant patients and has 401 members
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dialysis_support/)

2) Kidney_Transplants is for transplant recipients and those interested in transplant and has 232 members (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kidney_transplants/)

Good luck!
