Low Potassium

I am so tired of being tired. No energy. I am cold all the time. Are these symptons?

I have had low potassium for years. Could you please help with a few questions?

I am on a water pill (modertic) which to my understanding is a potassium sparing water pill. Right? I started out on 10mg K-Dur then up to 20mg twice a day. Dr. just called it still the same at 2.4 which is only 1 -10th of a point below normal right? Is this a big deal? Now I need to increase to 30 mg twice a day.

They say low potassium causes heart problems. How can I tell if my heart skips beats? Can I feel them or only by taking my pulse? What is a normal pulse rate?

I have had Ulcerative Colitis for the past year and half. I don't have or had this under control. Nothing seems to keep it under control. As there is no cure for U.C.

Very frustrated in Kansas

What does your doctor say could be possible causes? Have you spoken with a dietitian about foods you could eat to get more potassium in your diet? Did you see the other the messages on low potassium on this bulletin board? Perhaps some of the responses there could help you.
