In my years of experience working as a nephrology social worker, I found that hospice is a great resource for patients and families alike. The staff are very people oriented, knowledgeable about death and the dying process, and understand how it affects the patient and his/her loved ones. I'd suggest that you ask your father's doctor to make a referral to the local hospice agency. The social worker at your father's clinic may know which agency is experienced working with people on dialysis and their families. Also, hospice is a good resource to help families after the death of a loved one deal with the loss. You can find more about hospice on the web site for the
Hospice Foundation of America. They have information on hospice, publications, resources, and a place for family members and friends to share their grief
